[Tired of being told what she should or shouldn't do by her weyr, Sam has absconded with her gold, Kimbith. for some reason she feels a lot more secure than in the last world. Maybe it's because Kimbith seems a lot like her best friend. It almost feels like she's back home, with her dragon telling her that some things might just be a bad idea ( Read more... )

[To Roxas's surprise, his blue Aubath balances him out pretty well. Where he's serious, his dragon's cheerful and playful; where he has trouble understanding things, Aubath is quick on the uptake and clever. It's... really nice. Roxas is happier than he remembers being for a while.]

[Roxas has also learned that he loves flying with his dragon, so they took to the skies and had a blast just trying out different flying maneuvers and goofing around. Aubath insisted on wheeling back around to a beach that they passed to play in the water, and Roxas couldn't think of a reason to say no, so now they're soaring down, lower, lower, towards the surface --

splash!

Rider and dragon hit the water and they both come up laughing.]

Hey, what was with that landing?

What're you complaining about? [Aubath dips his nose into the water to splash Roxas, who covers his face and laughs again.]

Okay, now it's on!

[Cue a very noisy waterfight. So much for that nap, huh?]

[Aubath is ecstatic that he has another dragon to play with, and the fact that Roxas is also playing and so happy for once and Aubath thinks that they might be making new friends just fuels the boys' energy until the dragon just can't take it any more.

He leaps into the air, does several tight loop-de-loops, and drops heavily back into the water. Roxas shouts as the wave falls over him, and that means he gets a mouthful of salt water but he just doesn't care because he can't remember the last time he had this much fun.]

[Impressive, if not kind of dangerous.]

Hey, Kim, are you going to take that? [She's laughing now. It's just so silly, and hey, she likes fun.]

Anything he can do, I can do better.

[The gold flies high and does a few spins, splashing down big time. How very unqueenly.]

[Queenly? Who cares! This is fun!]

Oh, it's on now!

[Kimbeth may be a pretty gold (Roxas can hardly keep his eyes off her as she twirls, captivated by the way the sun glints off her scales), but Aubath is smaller and more maneuverable. He's no green, but he takes advantage of his size and performs some showy twists in the air before dropping back down.]

The only thing you can beat me at is how big a splash you can make!

[If the weyrs could see them now...]

[Not one to back down to a challenge, Kimbeth tries a couple more tricks. Though they don't look nearly as impressive since her bulk makes her rather clumsy.]

Don't hurt yourself! I don't know how they go about fixing broken dragon legs1

Hee hee. See, see. I win~

[Roxas laughs and splashes at Aubath] Don't be a sore winner.

I'd like to see you lay a clutch of eggs. [Huffs!]

It's okay. You'll kick his butt next time, girl.

[Pats her dragon on the side. She was getting more comfortable with this than she liked.]

I'd like to see you breathe fire. [Aubath's tone is light and still playful, his eyes swirling blue-green-blue]

And lower myself to being a green? Not likely. You can keep that.

Aw, c'mon, now. There's nothing wrong with greens!

Greens don't lay eggs. Queens do.

So?

Chewing firestone would make that not happen, and there would be no point.

Yeah, but if we didn't chew firestone, who'd take care of the Thread? Then everyone would die, and there'd still be no point. [Despite the topic, Aubath's tone is still light-hearted.

... he's also occasionally kicking water at his rider now and then.]

And just who will make more dragons if all of us chew firestone? For as few of us as there are, our riders can flame just was well as a dragon can.

All right, I'm starting to get pruney here. Are you almost done?

Yeah, let's go dry off. [And maybe get some ice cream! ... There is ice cream around here, right?]

Okay~. [Aubath begins the trot to shore, and Roxas turns to follow him, pushing his way through the water.]
