I was thinking more about the fact that you had to "clear a path" to the capital. Doesn't that mean that "Bern" country really really wanted your heads on stakes?

Not quite. Bern is rather strict on its security, but by traveling with Lord Pent and Lady Louise, we were guaranteed a path to the capital without running afoul of Bern's army.
