The ending was poignant and touching. It seems that Lana, at least, is happy and blissfully unaware of her situation, even though her parents can't say the same.
But I do wonder why Rex is so much meaner in Lana's dream version than in reality?
I actually have my reasons for Rex’s behavior. Every good story needs a “bad” character. He’s sort of the “Miss Hannigan” to her Annie. Thanks for reading!
I did have a thought later last night, kind of a dark one. Lana's parents think she's in some sort of happy day-camp dreamworld, and her own version is similar but tilted slightly more toward child-labor sweatshop. :O
This was such a fascinating story because of the ending. I was expecting some kind of Dickensian tale about orphans and workshops, but you turned that on its head while keeping the sadness. Very well done! I remember making those square knot crafts as a child.
