LJ Idol 8, Topic 14: "Twitterpated"

Lilith never knew when her body would betray her. The simplest of actions caused her heart to race, her face to feel hot and flushed, and her blood to flow faster than the proverbial speeding bullet through her newly super-charged system, like it was doing right now.

Lily grabbed the copy of People magazine from her shopping cart and used it to fan herself with one hand while the other busily brushed her long, golden blonde tresses off her neck and over her left shoulder, where they lay seductively cradling the outer edge of one of her full, perky breasts. Lily lowered her eyes demurely and tried to slow her breathing. Maybe if she wasn’t staring quite so hard at the red-headed stranger in the butt-hugging blue jeans, she could get her hormones back under control.

She had no idea until now how much of a turn-on a good-looking young man fondling firm Valencia oranges could be.

Thumpity-thump-thump-thumpity.

Oh god, there she goes again.

"You can do this," Lily muttered to herself, tossing the magazine back into her cart and grabbing the cool metal handle with both hands. She strode around the deep watermelon bin and tried to avoid making eye contact with the disheveled, dark-haired man who was percussing the pale green rind of a Honeydew with two long, firm fingers, checking for ripeness.

Damn, she was getting ripe herself.

"I had no idea fruit could make one feel so pixilated... or is it addlepated?" Lily wondered aloud.

Whatever the term was, she had it. Eyes firmly forward so as to not look at the harem of housewives with their hands firmly wrapped around bright yellow bananas, Lily left the produce section of the supermarket behind her and strode into the bakery department. Surely, she'd have more luck there.

Oh. Hell. No.

She had completely forgotten about the long, lean loaves of French and Italian breads, their lengths wrapped in protective prophylactic... um, plastic... sleeves. Even the nicely-rounded mounds of hamburger buns were too much for her to take in her present state.

Hurriedly, she moved to the meat section.

"Rump roast... strip steak... bone-in tenderloin... chicken breasts... pork cutlet..."

Thumpity-thump-thump-thumpity-thump.

Lily felt like screaming.

It was all she could do to toss a package of ground beef into her cart before she turned down the pasta aisle, threw a box of Angel-hair noodles into her cart (not that she was feeling especially angelic at present) along with a jar of whatever brand of tomato sauce was closest at hand, and quick-marched her hot and sweaty self to the Express check-out lane.

Lily barely glanced at the cashier as she unloaded her meager purchases onto the conveyor belt. She had to get home and take a cold shower. Her body felt like it was burning up from the inside out.

"That'll be sixteen-sixty-nine," the cashier stated.

Lily pulled her debit card out of her purse and passed it to the youngster, quickly grabbing the two plastic bags and moving her cart off to the side.

"Have a nice day, and thank you for shopping at Dixon Market," he replied, glancing down at her heaving cleavage. Their fingers touched briefly as he handed her card back.

Thumpity-thump-thump-thumpity-thump-thumpity.

She barely resisted pulling the unwitting clerk into a passionate kiss that would knock his lopsided nametag off.

Lily forced herself to back away from the check-out counter and worked hard to reign in her wayward hormones as she exited the supermarket. She jumped into her car, turned on the air conditioning, and blasted it on the iciest, most frigid setting possible.

Shifting into drive, Lily hoped she could hold herself together until she got home from her unexpectedly titillating outing.

Her hand caressed the soft leather gearshift as she sped towards home. "From now on, Sam, I'm leaving the shopping to you!"

Thumpity-thump-thump-thumpity-thump-thumpity-thump!
