I completely agree with you regarding how the news has gradually shifted historically from being an informative source to a sensationist force. Stories seem to be evaluated based on how the audience will react to them. And, often times, they'll even give you a "cliffhanger" a few hours before the news begins, such as "6 foods thought to cause cancer. Tonight at 11." Sadly, comedians have been the only ones to comment on this sorry approach to informing the public by demanding on stage to know NOW instead of later what those foods may be ( ... )

That's why I google for news sometimes. One day an old news topic will enter my mind and I'll want to know what happened. It would be much easier if they would do as you say, though.
