Wtf is going on!!

First, the attacks on tourists in Srinagar; then the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai. And, perhaps, the most in-your-face of it all, Israels rain of bullshit--with explosives on the inside-- on Gaza and Lebanon. Whatever people said about the Cold War, there's a reason why its called so. In the 90s and since the turn of the century, there's been such ( Read more... )

Kashmir should be given a vote to decide what political entity they want to be part of--India, Pakistan or an independent state. Whatever the result, we accept it and move on.

It isn't that simple. What if Kashmir votes to be an independent state and India just lets them off and then in comes Pakistan, invades them and takes it over? It is one of the possible scenarios.. or isn't it? I think India has a sense of accountability to Kashmir, maybe that's just my point of view.

Of course it isn't simple--but i think we've made it more complicated than it should be..Also, I don't think a Pakistani invasion is a possiblitiy in today's geopolitical atmosphere--given India, China and US. Also, I do not for a moment believe in the two nation theory and am totally for a secular India--but the situation in Kashmir isn't just about religion; its also about the right of self-determination of people, the poverty and oppression there, and India's role in all of it.

Are you in India right now- or were you during the bombings?

Hi, I am in India right now; but a couple of thousand miles from Bombay.
I've been in touch with your life :), good luck for college.

I'm glad you weren't anywhere near the city, still, it must have been very frightening. What is the atmosphere/general reaction where you are?

And thanks, I'm looking forward to UVM...6 weeks!

I wish I knew more about the situation in Kashmir, but I'm afraid I can't give any intelligent input. And I wish, as only a naive college-bound student can, that people could simply coexist so we wouldn't HAVE any of this misery in the world.

Wish, wish, wish.

I used to be liberal like you about Kashmir. But the way they have chosen to kill people for their cause and consider it as a militant movement - killing the common man - I think they have lost any rights one had. This is war now. India is a developing nation still. A lot of wrong happens, but how many of us begin killing the innocent to show our displeasure? I think the muslims who made Pakistan are trigger happy people with a beleif they are superior since the day they came into form. And we are some low-life worthless objects. So, they kill us happily? Religion is the only reason, since start, since independence. Why should we accept that premises at all. We are a secular nation and religon is not the basis we decide the shape of our nation.

Appreciate your effort to be objective about our own country - not an easy thing at all.

Have a good time in Zambia!

Have you seen Fanaa? What did you think of it? Having understood only about 10% of the dialogue, I thought it was great!

Haven't seen Fanaa; it was off all the main screens before I arrived in Delhi. I like Fanaa songs.
