I've been wondering what Rowling is planning to make of the Walpurgis/Walburga connection. It's funny, though, that my first response to the idea of the final battle being on April 30 was, "But surely it will happen in June? It always does!" But if they really won't be in school, then the final battle being in June yet again would just be absurd. April 30, Halloween, and Easter all look like good potential dates.

I would say that October 31 is too short a period of time, but, since it seems Bill and Fleur's wedding will be a big event and Harry will probably not spend the entirety of it with the Dursleys, it will probably be more action packed than usual.

However, I am inclined to think that we will see April 30th used. Important dates thus far:
1. Voldemort falls: October 31 (not important seasonally, but opposite the calendar from April 30th)
2. Voldemort rises: June 24 (Midsummer, the celebration for the summer solstice 3 days after the actual seasonal event)

I also suspect that some important things have occured in December (winter solstice):
1. The first prophecy - the exact date is unknown, presumably sometime in the winter
2. Voldemort's visit to Hogwarts asking for the DA position (if you've read any of kaskait's essays about TR/MM this is particularly interesting ( ... )

Oh yes, I like that. That would be a nice touch. It started on Halloween and should end in Walpurgis night.

Didn't Hitler already die on the 29th, though?

Wikipedia told me the 30th, but then again, wiki isn't exactly the most reliable source of information...

No, I guess I'm wrong. No idea why I have the 29th memorized. I still feel it should be. :P (Maybe it's the official end of WWII? Or I just have to let go of that date.)
Right now I'm rather expecting JK to make use of this parallel, and to have this planned before she wrote PS. But we'll see.
