► Last night I said my left eye kept twitching. Today my eye was fine, but at some point tonight the twitching started up again. I went to the washroom to wash my hands and looked in the mirror and saw what's happening. My lower eyelid is spasming periodically, with a double flutter which keeps contracting the lid. MalcolmD says: Is this the first time that your eyelids have ever gone on a twitching spree, or that you've even heard of such a thing? If so, then I should reassure you that it's probably nothing. It happens to me at least once a year, and I've heard other people remark on it happening to them too. Indeed, I've even heard the response from health spokespeople that it's not only purely benign, but that it happens to the other muscles in your body too and you just don't notice it because they aren't as sensitive as your eyes are. Since then, I've noticed it in other muscle groups.

I'm sure that, in rare cases, it could be a symptom of something else, but it's also a purely mundane part of life.

No, it's not the first time. My point was mostly just that it's annoying and I'm just guessing stress related. I didn't think it was something serious.

Usually when I get it it's the eyeball itself doing the twitching (sort of "jumping"). My surprise was mostly just that it's the eye lid and that the fluttering twitch was so noticeable. It looked like a cartoon.
