Update: baby sis is home for the weekend! And has treated us with the biggest eyeroll imaginable for worrying about her, ugh, KIDS. She went down south yesterday, and then was called back to her homebase a bit further away from the action, where she and her unit are prepared and waiting to see if they get any orders. Since it's sitting and waiting ( Read more... )

I want to say something about how I can't imagine living with bombings being such a common occurrence that you just think, "oh two booms, let's get my car done", but it sounds so fucking trite of me. And yet. I can't imagine.

You know - I can't imagine living in the kind of weather Chicago had this winter (what. how do you step outside to do ANYTHING in that.), or living in tornado/hurricane climates, or even, heck, having asthma or diabetes or a peanut allergy. Different populations are used to different dangers and inconveniences? I have the privilege of living in an area where not only is this a rare occurrence (maybe twice a day these past few days - not 15, 20 like it might be down in the south, and I'm not even mentioning the Gaza side), and if I trust our technology to work, then I also have the privilege of fairly reliable safety measures and advance warning - you hear a siren, you take cover for 10 minutes, then go about your day again. And as a single person with no family or kids to take care of, that's definitely a big stress reliever too.

I mean, don't get me wrong - I'm not making light of the situation (er, most of the time), and I do feel the need to talk about it because - well, because it's different, and it's weird - but I feel like it ( ... )

I had trouble getting up this morning because the cat wasn't pouncing on me. And when I called them one came and then I couldn't get up because she decided to stand on my collarbone.

It's not the same and yet, it sounds like it could be.

I'm glad you won't slack off next time :-) And glad the rest of your day was so nice.

Yesterday was the first time the alarm went off in my hometown, ergo first time had to deal with the dog. She was so good! I had imagined she'd be running around and we'd have to chase her, and instead she was just like, if you want to pick me up I will let you pick me up and cuddle me, lol.

Trouble getting up is, I feel, universal. So really, we will have that in common as long as we are both people forced to wake up by the cruel forces of nature and society.
