I just friended my grandmother on Facebook.

(A: Safta. Q: What is a five-letter word for 'awesome'?)

The internet is for porn friending that kid who was always eating glue in crafts time when you were in kindergarten on facebook.

and for friending your grandma, too, apparently. My Gran just keeps asking me 'what does The Internet look like?' :((((

My sister opened a FB account for her today, basically so she could keep track of her grandkids abroad like the rest of us.

I don't go into Facebook much, so at least it's not gonna be awkward (I think), just kinda cool in general.

Dude, all I have to say is, Ilya's grandma has an LJ.

She's very active in the Russian speaking comms apparently. With the gardening and the movie club and whatever else.

But just... seriously.

Well, I don't expect her to actually get involved in FB, just track us around and look at pics. She still has to search for each letter before typing.

If she were to interact online in any way, it would probably be to some kind of Israeli history forum. She cracked me up today at lunch -- she started singing us Reveille (this tune, the military wake up call) that they used to sing in the 30s and 40s in youth movements Palmach and so forth, obviously influenced by the British. The lyrics started with:

הקורס, דום!
הקורס, דום!
בבוקר אצים, אצים, רצים
עושים מקלחת בנחת
מתכוננים למפקד
זקן גלח
נעליים צחצח
היה שמח
רגליים הרם, הרם, הרם!
קשה לי לקום,
קשה לי לקום,
קשה לי לקום בבוקר
קשה לי לקום,
קשה לי לקום,
קשה לי לקום
AND THEN SHE DOESN'T REMEMBER THE LAST WORD which drives me nuts.

Anyway :-)

Perhaps she will use the internet to virtually travel and plan her next adventure. At the very least, get her onto tripadvisor before she plans her next getaway.

Hee, I think she already is. She's planning a trip to Portugal; I think she's looking up stuff online. Although she prefers working with a travel agent, as archaic as it sounds nowadays :-) It's easier, what with most of the online info being in English.
