Oh my god I can’t believe I forgot to post about this, I was so excited about it: people, WE HAVE A TRAIN! A real, honest to god train station, a twelve minute drive from my house, with a beautiful, clean train that can take you to the airport and to Tel Aviv in half an hour, a train, and I cannot emphasize this enough, which is NOT A BUS. We’re* a ( Read more... )

I am so confused. I thought you were going to university in Tel Aviv? So how is it that it takes half an hour to get from where you live to Tel Aviv by train? What have I misunderstood?

During the school year I live in Tel Aviv, but most weekends I go back home to my parents' - at least last year, when I lived in the dorms. Next year I'm going to have an apartment in Tel Aviv (I'll move in in late October), so I might come home less, but I'll still need to go back and forth occasionally. Driving by car (which I only have when I'm home on weekends) takes half an hour, but taking the bus could take up to two hours, especially with Sunday morning traffic. The train is a huge relief.

Ohhh, so "we have a train and are a real city" means "the town my parents live in has a train and is a real city" not "Tel Aviv has a train and is a real city." That makes much more sense, thank you. :-)

Trains! New train stations! We recently got service on a second metro line, and I was ecstatic. I understand how exciting these things can be. Happy riding! M.

Thank you! We've actually recently changed the local bus company too, and the new one is even worse than the previous (I rode on a bus where just as he was leaving the station a woman ran up and actually knocked on the doors, which he had just closed - and he wouldn't let her in, because he was supposed to leave right on time as per company policy) - so the train is an incredible relief. No traffic! At all!

Oh, that's awful! It's not as if they aren't late themselves fairly often.

The no-traffic thing is really appealing. I know the trend these days is to push for buses--working with existing infrastructure and all that--but a predictable schedule is so appealing.

Anyways, yay for minor improvement in everyday life!

Indeed :-) Oh, I could vent about public transportation all day long. (But then, who couldn't. Unless you live in NYC or London or a big flashy city with an underground railroad.)
