Well, as you may or may not have noticed... I indirectly participated in the LJ Strike BOYCOTT, yesterday. In fact I didn't write anything except for a couple of comments here and there for almost 3 days

What's wrong with Greatest Journal now? I have an account there, but I don't think I've logged on in ages. I don't even recall which username I used, most likely justaweasel. I don't remember tho and I'm too lazy to go find out, haha.
Ahh, there is someone else out there who hasn't gotten their taxes done yet! ;p [Me either...] *whistles*
I think they just mixed them together, and nobody knows the difference or that there is one or where everything originated from [regarding Easter traditions]. The first people to introduce them were probably like "we like these, they're cute, why not make them part of it? who cares if they're pegan or whatnot!"
I guess GJ is back up and running. I heard that they had a major server crash during the whole "LJ-strikeout" deal that happened last year. And I think they are the ones that had 100 user pics/icons with every free account.
The choosing of Easter wasn't entirely random. Easter and Passover are based on the lunar calendar. The Last Supper was a Passover supper, so Jesus was crucified the weekend of Passover. Usually, Easter and Passover are within one week of each other. This year, not so much.
I think almost all religious festivals that take place in the spring are either Solar (equinox) or Lunar based and one religion continually adopts and converts the festivals from countries/cultures/civilizations they conquer or integrate into in with their own mythology and beliefs.
And that was pretty much my point. The date for Easter anymore is pretty arbitrary and changes frequently. I have even heard talk about converting the 4th of July into "Independance Day Celebration" and moving it to the first Friday in July. Of course that idea is pretty much doomed from the start though *lol*
Easter is the first Sunday after the first day of spring after the full moon. Hence, March 23. Passover begins on the 15th day of the month of Nisan, the first month of the Hebrew calendar, in accordance with the Hebrew Bible. Basically, it takes place on the first weekend after the first day of spring after the full moon. We (humans) don't change the dates. We just picked odd definitions in the first place. I agree with you that Christianity stole a lot from the pagans.
