Yesterday evening I went to see The Tempest with loreley_se, londinensa and trianne. Bought myself a programme and a set of fridge magnets with shakespearean insults. Very entertaining to read and with all the other reaction it seems as though this will be a hot ticket during the summer in London. I'm eager for the press night.
Does anyone brave the wooden seats or does everyone rent cushions? Also just toward the end of your entry: is it Prospero or Ariel who is forgiven and free to go?

Prospero gives everyone what they desire, deserve and/or need: Ariel his freedom, Calebas the island, the traitors forgiveness, Ferdinand and Miranda each other with his blessing etc. Then he turns to the audience and asks them their applause so he can sail away from the island.

The wooden seats are really hard on the backside and the back. Some people even rent back-supports. If you are going, I'd suggest that you rent or bring a cushion (unless you are in the gentleman's seating area where the seats are already padded).

RC - sounds like you had a great time. I'm excited to see it for myself.

of course the delight in live performance for actors and audience are all the collective reaction to the performance. I'm sure the aaaawwwws for Ariel will be a constants source of back stage ribbing for the actor ;-)
