And now for something completely different...

Myself and Mr. RC want to paint a wall in our living room but we can't decide on the colour so if anyone has some advice then please lets hear it!

Pics of what has to be kept in mind behind this cut. )

I always think yellow and blue/purple goes really well if you want something colourful. Or if not yellow, a natural green would bring the green from the garden into the room, perhaps?

We just got home from a DIY shop to get some colour samples and our choices so far are (golden) yellow or (something between asparagus and fern) green. I'm leaning towards yellow, he's leaning towards green.

So yeah, looks like we're on the same wave-length with you :D

We'll get the opinion of the kids involved and see how that works out.

Those floors are fake wood and badly in need of a replacement (they're almost 20 years old now, pretty worn and can't be scrubbed and varnished like regular wood) and now I'm thinking yellow for the wall and green marbled linoleum for the floor.

I would love to have all those colours in our living room!

Our bank-account is cringing as I type this...

If you think it looks comfortable, you should sit in it; it's even better. We went to buy that couch and when I saw that chair I thought 'hm, lets try that one' which changed to 'ok, deal' once I sat down. It's the chair I sit in when I read or watch tv.

I'd pick a nice gold, similar to something in the rooster's wing. In fact, put the rooster in the orange chair, and look at which colour blends, but doesn't wash out the impact of the orange. Or you could go with a nice sagey - green that's also in his feathers.

I think purple would darken the room too much - you've got lots of nice light in there, I'd work to keep that light.

I love that you picked up on that pillow, because I bought it recently on a whim and just love what it does for the couch. Also the green we picked as a possibility was taken from that pillow.

There is no gold/yellow in that rooster. It only looks like that from a distance. The yellow sample we took home though goes very well with it.

You can't see it in the picture but especially the orange chair has a lot of other colours woven into the fabric, including yellow, purple and green.

I think I'm going to try and convince Mr. RC to go with yellow for the wall and green for the floor.

(I feel like John would be so pleased.)

::grins:: I think he would be!

It's amazing how a little detail like that, or sometimes a big detail, like a carpet, can make everything suddenly snap together.

That print that's hanging over the sofa? I'd pick a yellow/gold color from that for the wall. I think that would look awesome. Really warm and happy. :)

I think that's what you suggested at Pierrefonds too, if I remember correctly. Warm and happy is definitely what we are going for :D

I think I agree with beeej: a golden yellow from the print, especially since you don't care about the floors. I'd get an area rug with green, gold, purple, blue in it to tie it all together.

Golden yellow from the print gets a lot of votes! Your idea of an area rug like that is great; I'll keep that in mind!
