Rather huge news in the Linux world today: Nokia is buying Trolltech (developers of the basic stuff behind the KDE desktop)! This is huge in two ways:
  1. It signal major investment in KDE's future
  2. It signals Nokia's intention to move away from using Symbian as the OS in its phone, and move towards Linux instead

It's snazzy, but it's definitely not ready for laptop use. There's no power management or wifi handling as of yet. If you're using Ubuntu, I'd give it until at least 8.04 and maybe until 8.10, and stick with KDE 3.5 in the meanwhile.

I just installed it on my desktop, and after 20 minutes of playing around with it, I remember why I switched to Gnome in the first place. I guess KDE just still isn't my thing. Ho hum.

The Nokia N770, N800, and N810 all run off of maemo... I have a n800, and it is my constant companion... ;)

I have an n800 myself. The surprising thing is that maemo is based on Gnome technology, and most Nokia phones run Symbian, so them investing heavily in what is competitor technology is slightly strange. Only slightly though.
