Oh wow, now I'm happy! A mention of my old favourite ambulocetus on LJ!!!
We've got a running joke about ambulocetus with a museum friend we holiday with, which normally surfaces in two ways a) when we talk about trying to get permission to visit a paricular lake shore location to check ot a rumoured sighting of a large type of fossil gastropod meant to have been noted there in the last century (I can't remember the name, and started calling it ambulocetus - for no good reason, I hasten to add) and b) when we go swimming and make rude remarks about each other wallowing in the shallows of a warm rock pool.
happy to make you happy. wait...are you one of those people who thinks Nessie and other lake monsters are molluscs? (its cool; I've never met someone with that view, but I've read in passing of such views)
wallowing in the shallows...reminds me of a line in a novel I read once. *has an idea* think I'll make Pullo say it in my first 'Rome' ficlet. *eg*
*nods* I watch the Primeval episode, and I think to myself "how the heck did that bird get that high on that rock?" :D
glad you enjoyed the giraffe.
ps: sorry about lack of sleep. hope I proved amusing.
Actually, no, I think it was said to be a real mollusc fossil, but I'm not sure I set much store by lake-monster theories, unless anomalies really do exist :)
But you're right re birds and the rock - I hadn't noticed that.
It certainly proved a pleasant diversion to discuss hominid evolution etc on LJ. I enjoyed myself last night, and I've got an idea for my Rome ficlet as well ......
I'm glad to hear you've got your Rome idea...my Niobe muse keeps pointing out the flaws in my plot bunnies (took long enough to get such a muse!) seems gladiatorial tradition is a hurdle to finding a decent prehistoric threat. well, I shall continue in my search.
to quote Mr. Stoppable, "I'm happy to be a distraction" or diversion. :)
