I haven't seen this movie (and have no intention of doing so, as I disliked the first one very much.) I may be misreading you, but are they by any chance suggesting that the spider-venom has a DNA component? Cos it doesn't. Nor does it have a genetic effect - it's a neurotoxin. I think Stan's radioactive spider probably made more sense!
quite right: spiders need their venom to process their food for them. (or real spiders do)
I have no idea how those film spiders eat - both transformations were as a result of being injected with the hybrid venom (with human DNA in it) I suppose they - the scriptwriters - heard that spider fangs are like hypodermic needles...and proved "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" right in spades.
