Very sad news

On Ithildyn's LJ, I just found out that Anne McCaffrey passed away:

Random House Books has also acknowledged the writer's death. A post now up at the publisher's site reads, "McCaffrey died at her home in Ireland on November 21st shortly after suffering a stroke."

I haven't made klah in a long time, but this seems a good time to raise a glass

I used to keep a tin of klah in my dorm-room in college. It's been 20 years... I should pick up the ingredients to make more...

I was crushed when I heard the news on Tuesday. In 1999 my husband and I road-tripped around Ireland, and were lucky enough to visit Dragonhold-Underhill and meet Anne. She was witty and warm, and wonderful. Her living room was lined in Michael Whelan paintings - all the covers. She signed my hardcover "Masterharper of Pern" (which had just come out). She even invited us to go riding. She was excited about the (at the time) possible TV series of Pern (which fell through). That visit is one of my fondest memories.
