There are times when I really don't understand N3 fandom. But a few people are making a big effort to keep the fandom going and I very much wish them well. I might even manage to get my own N3 WIPs finished one day. I always feel guilty have unfinished stuff. But I only really played with N3 fic writing in the first Primeval hiatus, and since then my Primeval muse has somewhat swamped all others.

And now the panicked cries are that the new comm is too different.

I know this is a conversation that has been had in a few other places already, but are the so-called "panicked cries" that the new comm is too different or is the problem mainly over its specific rules (no incest/no explicit sex or violence/no heroes committing crimes)? Because that's the only thing I've seen people objecting to.

the specific rules tend to be cited as evidence that it is too different.

whereupon I ask if they have tried asking the mod if she would change the rules.

I guess the reason I asked is because when I saw the concept of the comm (i.e. the different themed teams), I thought it was a really cool idea, but when I saw the rules I was really turned off by them. But I personally didn't think of them as being too different from the n3writeoff comm/rules, I thought of them as too restrictive for any general interest comm, whether it was "replacing" an older comm or was a 100% brand new idea. That is, I wouldn't be interested in participating in a comm with those rules even if it was in a different fandom, with no relation to the writeoff comm. Obviously I'm only speaking for myself, but my experience makes me wonder if you are misinterpreting other people's opinions as being about this comm in relation to n3writeoff when they're really just about this comm. If that makes sense, haha ( ... )

Seconded. I don't care how similar or different n3teamchallenge is to numb3rswriteoff. I'm not one of those who thinks that an idea that has already been borrowed from elsewhere is off-limits the moment the person running it moves on.

But - and this is a big but - I do think n3teamchallenge is too restrictive. As a person who writes for explicit sex and violence, I'm less inclined to participate until I see what the prompts are. I might play if the round interests me and I have an idea, but I'm not going to go out of my way to play, like I did with writeoff, if there's a good chance I might have to restrict the content of my fic beyond the prompt.

This may sound silly, but it is Jel's comm and she can run it how she likes, but that also means that I can choose whether to participate or not. It has nothing to do with writeoff, and I'm fine with how she might want to run it, but it doesn't grab my interest the way it is set up now.

There are people who write PG rated sex and violence as a matter of course. I'm just not one of them. *shrugs*
