math and baseball/softball rec

I saw the link for this and I thought of Numb3rs.

I spent three minutes going "didn't they talk about this on one of the episodes?" but I'm pretty sure they didn't.

and even though I can't use that math, I'm sure someone on my flist can use it - for fic or IRL.

have fun.

Pretty sure they did do a baseball one in Numb3rs...if for no other reason than Donnie used to play...or I'm confusing a fic I read with the show.

I know Charlie used baseball as one of his analogies. its the cases that blur.

(and confusing a fic I read with the show happens to me a lot too; no worries)

The episode about baseball was 3.08 Hardball but it was more about using statistics to find players who were "juicing."

I think the article is pretty interesting, but you're right - I think Charlie used something like it as some point to describe one of his Charlie visions. Still would be cool though. :)

I know the feeling

Here's the most comprehensive case/math listing I've ever seen...you can even search. http://www.redhawke.org/content/section/10/58/

I don't tend to do it with Numb3rs as much as with some other shows because I only read certain people for Numb3rs...but yeah. And then there's my shows where I live happily in the land of De-Nile.

I wish I understood it period. Math and I don't quite intersect much past basic algebra.

if it helps, I couldn't get to algebra.

No what's bad is I'm attempting to teach math and my students are correcting my problems...

There is a nice passage in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency about the mathematics of catching a ball. In a different vein, I think that it is hinted in "To the Last Man" that her mathematical gifts make Tosh a pool shark.
