I'm curious. I've tried holding a ficathon before, namely a multi-fandom anthropology ficathon. I've considered taking part in the Apocalyptothon(sp

I'm having a go at the current Primeval one, and I will finish it, but to be honest, I'm not really liking the idea of writing to a deadline, so I doubt I would sign up for another.
A multi fandom aliens invade sounds very tempting though, but I can't see me signing up for another for a while.
I'd consider it. It probably depends on the fandom and when it is, because the end of the summer/2008 looks like it's going to be pretty busy for me. I'm usually good with ficathons, though. I like having deadlines to work for.
I think a small fandoms ficathon would work well - you know like The 4400, Seven Days, Rome + things like Brimstone, maybe Invasion, Threshold, shows that didn't last long or never quite picked up fandomwise.
Though I think in order to make sure there's enough crossover for fandoms written between participators you might have to have a primary list of fandoms that are reasonable common that everyone must pick one or two to write for from. Does that make sense?
I must ask - what is the idea behind the meadficathon? The only immediate idea of what it could be was the Meade family from Ugly Betty (which it can't be as multifandom) or literally involving the drink mead...
Margaret Mead, anthropologist. (author of such texts as "Coming of Age in Samoa")
basically, the idea there is to focus on a part of the universe or society that the series didn't -- ie, what sort of culture produced Kaywinnit Lee Fry? or, have someone from the Commagene Kingdom visit Vorenus' Rome. or, what sort of martial arts did the Hoffans practice? what are the to-do and not-to-do things of civility in Being Human's vampire society.
lol I so should have made that connection as she got mentioned enough in my anthro classes. Mind you, I haven't read her book - I got lumbered with reading about Cargo Cult and another book about trading affecting culture in northern africa I forget the name of (was feverish when reading and writing that report so little stuck!).
I actually rather like the idea of the Mead ficathon, I think fic on Pegasus cultures or even Wraith would be fab and I'm sure there's plenty of other examples in other fandoms. I'm curious though, as to how far you can stretch that - could someone write on what it's like to work/live at The 4400 Centre for example? More modern sub-cultural focus.
If you do decide on any of these ficathons I'm very willing to help organise and/or promote them.
no worries about not maing the connection. I've read parts of the Samoa book...then bought it for my mom's birthday (she said she hadn't read it in a long while, and wouldn't mind it - so I got it for her, and she returned it) *shrugs*
>could someone write on what it's like to work/live at The 4400 Centre for example? sure..."On Endemic Customs and Rituals within the Think Tank" maybe. ;)

Best of luck, if you do go ahead. :)
