The offer to join Preventers came in a small, unassuming brown envelope early one morning. At first Heero was surprised, he'd been expecting a meeting with Lady Une at the very least. It was only after he'd poured himself a cup of warm water and sat down at the small table in the communal kitchen that he had a chance to see the relevence of this method.
Being there with Lady Une, actually in the offices themselves, a meeting would have been very hard to say no to; this one small envelope on the other hand, was no less importance to the shaping of his future, and yet very innocuous.
A life with Preventers was tempting. It would mean a place where he would fit in, somewhere that his training would be useful and his personality understood, but it was not really conducive to growth and Heero knew that in an everchanging world he could not afford to remain stationary.
He was not the first one to leave the house that they had been offered, but neither was he the last.
It was good enough for him.
