Summary: Alex has just moved for the last of many times to Dulaney High school. He has decided that this is the year and school that he will try and become "popular" but if that happened would it be a bad thing? And will finding a new friend, that may think of him as more, also affect it?....

Chapter Forty-One

“Here?” Alex asked.

“Yeah? What's wrong with this place?” Josh asked, eyebrow raised.

“Nothing...it's just...I don't know. Jack and I used to come here.” The blonde said, stopping outside the door.

Josh rolled his eyes and then grabbed Alex's arm, pulling him into the diner, “So? Fucking hell, Alex. You don't have to be so god damn sentimental about everything.”

~

After the two boys had finally sat down (“Josh, can we not sit there? That's where Jack and I used to sit.” Eye roll from the younger boy) and ordered, they began to brainstorm ideas on how to fix things between Alex and the Lebanese boy.

“How about you get a bunch of flowers and then arrange them outside his window saying 'I Love You'?” Josh suggested,

“Really? That is the cheesiest thing ever!” Alex said, chuckling, “What about I go to prom and then when they announce the king and queen, I go onstage and say 'Jack Barakat, I love you!'?”

The other boy gave him a look, “Right, that's even cheesier than the one that I suggested.”

“How about you put Post-It notes on his door saying it?”

“I do not have the patience for that. I could write him a poem?”

“He hates poetry.” A pause and a smirk, “How about you make a dunce cap that says 'I Love Jack Barakat' in flashing lights and wear it around?”

Alex rolled his eyes, “Next.”

“Ooo! You know Rose Tyler?”

The older boy looked at him funny due to the seemingly random subject change. “Yeeeah? The blonde one, right?”

Josh nodded, “Well, how about I get her to send Jack a singing valentine in the middle of the hallway!”

“If I was going to send Jack a singing valentine, which I'm not because that is a really stupid idea, why would I have some random girl sing it to him, when I could? I am a singer, you know.”

The younger boy looked at him like he was stupid, “Because, Alex. Her name is Rose. It's the name of a romantic flower. Duh.”

“Whatever. Why don't I just get him a limited edition copy of Home Alone and put it through his door with a note that says 'Open your door, I have something really important to tell you and if you don't listen to what it is, then I'll take my film back.' on it and then when he opens his front door, I'm standing there and I tell him!” Alex said really excitedly, he was pretty sure that he'd nailed it with this one.

That didn't seem to be the case though because Josh just raised an eyebrow and gave him a look like, 'Really?'. The blonde crossed his arms, huffed, and sank down in his seat, frustrated.

Josh looked down at his food and then looked back up at Alex, “Why don't you just go up to him and tell him straight out?”

The blonde looked back at him and then said, looking thoughtful, “Because. I've been a dick to him. And I'm aware of that. Jack deserves more than just a simple, 'I Love You'. I need to tell him and also make up for all the stupidity that I've taken part in, you know?”

The other boy bit his lip, “Yeah, I understand. Well, what about you write him a song or something? You are a singer after all.”

Alex sighed, “Maybe, I don't know.” He glanced at his phone, “Look, it's getting late and I still have a tonne of homework. Thanks, Josh. I really appreciate this. I'll talk to you on Monday and we can try and think of something then, yeah?” He sounded tired and worn out, reflecting exactly how he felt inside. He was also annoyed that they hadn't thought of a good enough idea for Jack.

“Sounds good. I have stuff to do too.” Josh replied.

The two of the stood up, chucked some money on the table, and headed out of the diner. When they got to the door Josh stopped walking and Alex looked at his back annoyed.

The blue-eyed boy was looking at the cork board next to the door that had on it all the business cards, missing animal signs, local announcements, or any other stray piece of paper that someone deemed important or noteworthy. He reached out and pointed to a certain piece.

“Look. Blink are going on tour and are gonna be in town in two weeks!” He said, excitedly.

Alex's mood quickly lifted, “Really that's great! I can't wait to tell-oh. Yeah.”

Josh looked at him sympathetically, “I'm sorry. Do you still want to go? I mean, you'll still have a good time.”

The blonde shook his head, “Nah, it wouldn't be the same if I wasn't there with Jack. You should tell him though. You two would have a good time.”

Josh looked at his face searched for any signs of hurt, “You sure?”

“Yeah, yeah. It's cool.” He looked down at his old Converse quickly and then looked back up at the younger boy.

“All right, well, I'll text him or something. See you later!” He said before smiling and walking out.

Alex waved and when the other boy drove away he started to walk out himself, throwing the Blink tour poster one more quick glance before putting it to the back of his mind and forgetting about it.

Later that night, after he had attempted to work on his school work, Alex lay on the couch in his living room upside down, his feet leaning against the wall and his head dangling down by the floor.

He was watching some random music video show and humming along when the video for What's My Age Again? came on.

As he absent-mindedly sang along to the words that he knew so well he started to think about Jack and about the flyer that he and Josh and found at the diner earlier. He sighed and just wished that he had thought of a plan and was with the Lebanese boy already so that he could go to the concert with him.

Concerts with Jack were always fun. He always dragged Alex to the barrier no matter how late they got there, how crowded it was, or how many scary big people were in the way. The blonde loved to glance at Jack randomly during the songs and watch how his face lit up completely because he was in total bliss. They sang along to every word as loud as they could and jumped around like they were mad. He was being honest when he had told Josh that it wouldn't be the same without Jack.

That started him thinking about Josh and their planning at the diner. Pretty much all of those plans had been unrealistic and not Jack. They were too cheesy, too much of a gamble, or just something that neither Jack, or Alex for that matter, would like.

There had been one thing Josh said though that had seemed like a good idea. He'd said that Alex should write him a song.

The blonde thought about that for a moment. He thought back and found that he hadn't picked up his guitar in ages, and he couldn't even remember the last time that he'd written something new.

The more he thought about it, the more writing a song about Jack, if not for him, sounded like a good idea. He realised that he had an itching to write down his feelings. And this jumbled mess of thoughts in his head would leave if he put them in a song.

After he had decided that he was going to write a song he felt happy. He wasn't sure if he would ever even play if for Jack, but as long as it got written then the blonde would be content.

He hummed a random tune to himself and looked back at the television screen. He noticed that the videos had stopped being good and were now on the top ten hits in the pop charts. He shuddered, clicked it off and then ran upstairs to get his guitar.

~

“Alex, honey, you need to eat.” The blonde lady said to her son.

“Yeah, yeah, okay. I will,” Her son said back distractedly, not even looking up from the words that he'd scribbled across his notebook.

“You really do need to eat, I don't want you to die from lack of food or something,” She said, jokingly.

“Yeah, I will, definitely,”

“Well, I'm off to have violent sex with your father and then we're going to go murder the neighbour's son, so we'll see you during visiting hours at the local prison!” His mom said.

“Yeah, okay, I'll do it later, love you too,”

Alex's mom laughed at her son's complete absorption in his writing and walked out of his room. She knew that he wouldn't be doing anything else until he got that song written. That's how it always was with her son. But she was glad that he'd started to write again, it felt good to see him putting his energy to good use and she really loved to hear his music.

~

Sunday night Alex looked proudly at his notebook. He'd written practically the whole song and he was very happy with what he'd produced. Just another verse and he'd be done.

He decided to take a break and maybe do what his mother had suggested the day before, eat. As he walked downstairs he pressed play on his stereo and whatever cd happened to be in it started to play.

He smiled as he walked down the stairs when his favourite Blink album started up. As he got to the kitchen and started to make a sandwich he thought again about the concert. He idly began humming his own song as he listened to the music blaring through the house.

He then dropped the knife that he had been so carefully using to spread jam on his bread. He'd got it. It was perfect.

It would only work if a few details went well. But other than that, it was perfect. It would work. Or at least, he thought it would. He'd talk to Josh about it tomorrow.

He smiled to himself and stopped making his sandwich. He started jumping up and down and singing along at his loudest volume to the music playing in his house. He finally knew the way to tell Jack he loved him.

A/N: Because I know that you guys just love it when an author leaves a cliffhanger or withholds information, I kind of did both! I hope you all liked this chapter, I quite did. Special thanks to my friend Callum because he helped with ideas.

I've not been feeling very well today, so I couldn't be bothered to read over this, if there are any mistakes, please ignore them. I am wearing a shirt that has Soft Kitty from the Big Bang Theory on it though, so, because I am a total nerd, that does make me happy! All I need now is someone to come cuddle and watch films with me! Haha

That's enough out of me. Comment, por favor! Love you all, thanks for reading!(:
