Summary: Torchwood 4 has been missing from the Torchwood Empire since the early 1900s, but have they really been missing? Are they ready to be "found?"
Tony Stark, CEO of Stark Industries, has been funding a secret project-- Torchwood, and Obadiah Stane will stop at nothing to find out what it is.
The cold, grey sky threatened rain as Gracelyn Dail strode towards an old warehouse on the outskirts of Los Angeles. She cautiously stepped through the heavy steel sliding door, jumping slightly as it automatically slammed closed behind her.
“Hello?” She called into the dark nothingness in front of her, her ears greeted by nothing more than her echo. Clutching her bag tighter to her side, she took a few tentative steps deeper into the blackness, her own footsteps quickly followed by a second pair. A third pair was added shortly after, and finally a fourth.
She whirled around quickly, only to be greeted by silence and nothingness. "Hello?!" She cried in a panic, drawing her firearm and holding it tightly. She started walking again, the three other footsteps joining hers again, somehow in sync without actually falling instep with each other.
She turned around and fired a shot, barely hearing the loud crack as the bullet hit the metal outer wall before her gun hand was grabbed and the weapon taken from it.
"Move and I will shoot you in the head." The person told her, grabbing her from behind and pressing the gun into her temple.
Gracie breathed heavily, panicking slightly from the situation. She finally took a deep breath and swung her right hand around quickly, punching the unsuspecting person square in the nose.
"Fuck!" The person cried out, thudding as they fell onto the cold cement.
"Lotus!" A male voice called out, rushing over as the lights turned on. "Are you okay?" He asked, staring at the blood streaming from her nose.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just have to watch out for her right hook." Lotus told him, smiling gratefully. "Thanks, Tony." She expressed with a small, almost shy smile.
"Oh my God! Lotus! Are you alright? I'm so sorry!" Gracie screamed, dropping to her knees next to them.
"What happened?" Ashlynn asked over the coms. "I told you that giving her a gun was dangerous!"
"She punched Lotus in the nose." Bobbye said calmly, kneeling next to them and pressing gause to their leader's nostrils. "Correction: She broke Lotus's nose." She told her.
There was a few moment's silence before a loud burst of laughter issued through the earpieces.
"I'm going to shove you in with the Yeatpoire we found last week." Lotus muttered, helped up by the only male on the team.
"I am so sorry, Lotus. Honest. I was just freaked out." Gracie explained, shutting off her earpiece so as not to start laughing along with Ashlynn.
Lotus shook her head slightly, "Don't worry about it. At least you reacted. Bobbye cried, Ashlynn nearly threw up, and Tony stabbed our captain in the thigh." She told her with a smile.
"He shouldn't have decided to equip me fully." He countered, smiling and helping Lotus towards the SUV.
"But, for future reference, Gracie: If you ever get in a situation where you're caught from behind by an alien, your right hook may not work on them. So don't always rely on that." She stated.
"Right. So... what about you? How did you react?" Gracie asked her leader.
"Well enough." She edged around the question, sitting in the passenger seat and reclining her head back as Tony drove.
Meanwhile in Cardiff
A screen turned itself on to Toshiko Sato’s right, startling her as well as intriguing her. She clicked a few keys on the keyboard and pulled up the video attached to the files. Her eyes widened considerably as the petite woman watched; joy, fear, and several other emotions gracing her features. “Oh my God.” She muttered.
“What is it, Tosh?” Owen asked, having been doing very little at his desk anyway. “Another doomsday-bringing alien out to gnaw on our spleens or sommin’?” He questioned, smirking a little.
“I think it might be worse.” She said in a slight panic, rushing into the lower levels to find Jack.
After a moments hesitation (which wasn’t very much hesitation at all), Owen decided to see what the big problem was. ‘Knowing Tosh, it’s an equasion or computer program she can’t figure out.’ He thought with a laugh, watching the video. A look of horror flashed over the doctor’s face, shutting the video off and going back to his business.
Toshiko rounded a corner, pausing a moment at the familiar, yet not entirely work appropriate sounds coming from one of the corridors. Smirking slightly, she cleared her throat. “Jack! Ianto!” She called, knowing the sounds were louder than her voice. She took a deep breath, mainly to keep from laughing, and turned, seeing a heated inter-office romance happening. “Excuse me, but… Jack… there’s something very important that you should see.” She told him.
Ianto looked up and over at his friend, blushing heavily.
“Thank you, Tosh… We’ll be there in a minute.” Jack said, reaching for his clothes.
She nodded and smirked at Ianto before walking away, giggling.
-- A Few Minutes Later --
“Okay, so what is it?” The captain questioned, straightening his collar in annoyance.
“We received a video message just a little while ago.” She explained, clicking away at the keyboard.
“And?” He asked, keeping his eyes on Tosh, and not the slightly sweaty Welshman to his left.
“Well… Just have a look.” She told him, pulling up the video and hitting ‘play’.
“Torchwood: Cardiff... My name is Captain Lotus Jade Parker. Torchwood officer Alpha Roger Dixie five-five-four-zero-two.…”
“Who is she?” Ianto asked, already knowing the answer, but needing confirmation.
“I hear that you, as well as Torchwood 1 & 2, have been looking for us. Yes, we are Torchwood 4. Until recently, we haven’t felt the need to contact you, hearing about the Battle of Canary Wharf as well as the problems of Cardiff, we didn’t wish to be involved. However, we feel that now is the time for us to rejoin Torchwood interface. I hope that you’ll understand my decision of keeping our location a secret. I know that you can track our frequency, but you won’t be able to find out where we are. We’ll get in contact again when the time is right. Until then… Be seeing you.”
Jack stared at the blank screen in awe. “We’ve found Torchwood 4.” He said in shock.
“Is that bad?” Gwen asked, having been watching along.
Jack stayed silent for a few minutes, exchanging looks with the others. “I don’t know.”
