Question on Appalachian Folk Beliefs

My father had a kind of folk superstition about the direction one should orient the body when sleeping. For instance, I think he said that the head should not be oriented downhill or in the direction of the nearest source of running water. I don't recall anything about the body's orientation when sleeping, personally. I used to switch up which side of the bed I slept on from season to season, but I think that had more to do with the rooms temperature than anything else. I'd be interesting in hearing more about this though.
