The warning list itself is insane and shouldn't be taken lightly. It's one of those rare stories that actually earns the use of every one of those labels, even in passing. But it's still not about all that. It's imaginative and surreal, hurtful, haunting and highly original.
[Short excerpt]When the wings flash in spastic silhouette against the barn wall, Dean is not cowed, or humbled; he thinks only of this pretty thing in chains, locked in one of his cages with stage lights plastering the vulnerable shadows of its wings over the wall for the hungry eyes of the amazed masses. He does not particularly want to do the work of God. He’s never been terribly fond of God and had assumed the feeling was mutual. He knows: the things he has done for the Menagerie, for Sam. There’s no coming back from that.
