My Crazy Trope Bingo Card...

Jan 05, 2013 19:14

Wow... I think this one is pretty challenging. I mean, not to make a bingo, but I was hoping to get a card I could do a blackout on. I don't know...this one will be pretty tough to do that with, I think:

Well, a blackout is not totally out of the question yet, but I'll have to plan this out some. I have a WIP right now that would fit the virginfic one, and I'm going to see if I can combine any of these with Camelot Drabble posts (new ones, of course).

jelazakazone has promised to help me with the steampunk one, because, yeah...NO clue on that!

It will be interesting to figure out a way to do both snowed in and locked in as mutually exclusive things.

Yeah, I know! I saw kitty_fic's and even k_nightfox's cards, and I was like, "Yeah, okay, I can do this..."

Boy, was I in for a surprise! LOL

Did you do one, too? And have you decided if you're going to do PaperLegends?

I haven't - I'm not certain where the bingo originated? (Work has been hectic past few days, only glanced at LJ to be honest.)

And no, I haven't decided, still. dolce_piccante is all set to beta and be my support but I haven't committed yet.

Firmly on a fence, that is me, sadly. Argh. :D

The trope bingo is here: http://trope-bingo.dreamwidth.org/

I am very serious about wanting to do PaperLegends as it's my one and only shot at doing it. I wasn't in the fandom at this point last year.

Are you trying for a blackout, or just a bingo? Top line looks awesome for a bingo. I like the middle column too. Oooh, fourth column is good too.

Seems like those first two columns are the problematic ones, eh?

Oh, I have no worries about making a bingo. There's plenty here to work with for that. I had originally hoped for a blackout, but I just don't know if I can do it with everything I've been given.

I think my current NC17 WIP would qualify for virgin!fic, don't you?

How long do you have to make a blackout?

Sure, if you say so! :D I can't remember the details at this point. If it doesn't, it would be easy enough to tweak:D

Plenty of time. April 30th is the last day to post bingos.

And once again I have no clue what this is and what to do with it....

Really? Okay, well, the idea is that you have to create fanworks using tropes that you have on your bingo card. (A trope is a common plot device that is often used in fan fiction.) You can try to make a bingo in any direction, or, if you like more of a challenge, you can try making multiple bingo lines or even a blackout, which is making a fanwork using every trope on your card.

So, for example, if I created five different fan works (doesn't have to be stories, but that's probs what I'll do) that used the ideas of: cross-dressing, an Alternate Universe story that is not one of the other AU tropes used on the card, a story where one character is a virgin, a "fuck or die" scenario fic, and a fic where the characters get "locked in" or trapped somehow... then I could claim a bingo vertically down the right hand side of my card.

Does that make sense, or do you want me to explain some more? I think you'd have fun with something like this!

So it's basically 6 stories with different prompts? The concept of Bingo as such is alien to me, as you can clearly see....

And the prompts you choose have to be in a row?

And yup, I guess I would have fun with something like that.... If I understood it correctly ;)

Well, five. Oh! The object of Bingo in general is to make a straight line on your bingo card. It can be vertical, horizontal, or diagonal. So, whatever "squares" you choose to fulfill would need to make that line in order to call bingo.

However, you can go for "extra credit" by making more than one bingo on the same card, making an X by doing two bingos diagonally through the center square, or "blacking out" the card by using all 25 prompts (middle space is whatever prompt you want). (They also have things called "postage stamps", which would be using all the tropes in any 2x2 square on your card in ONE story... sounds hard!)

Here, I'll give you the URL. It describes the game better than I could, I think: http://trope-bingo.dreamwidth.org

They also have links that explain all the different tropes that could show up on your card and what they mean (I know I had to look a few up!)

You got some great prompts too! Which ones are giving you trouble?

Well, so many AUs is a bit daunting to me, as I've never even written Merlin/Arthur (or any other Merlin ship) in anything besides Camelot era. I'm not sure I know how to write these characters in other time frames. That steampunk one scares the shit out of me. I was going to opt out of it, and then changed my mind, and there it is on my card!

And AU hooker/stripper? How?

Secret child... Ah, well...looks like I'm going to be stretching my mind a bit over this card!
