Fifteen bucks richer.

On Friday, Marisa and I had dinner with my mom, who was in The WC while my sister was on a college overnight. By showing up before check-in time and asking for a room, my mom wound up with a three-room suite for no extra money, so after dinner we went back to her hotel and watched my Netflixed copy of Tadpole, which I had never seen before, on her ( Read more... )

Good call on the medleys! I was second place in our office pool, and one of the people who coordinated it was first place. I don't think it makes you look like a douchebag. How many did you get right? I got 16. The winner got 18. I won $28 (minus the $5 joining fee).

I also got 16! w00t!

We only had half a dozen people in ours, and two of us got 16, and another person got 15, so I didn't exactly trounce, but I did better than the last few years.

Well, last year I won $100, so my $28 this year was a bit of a let down.

I think if you combined the best parts of Cursed and Ginger Snaps you'd have the best sibling werewolf movie comma ever.

Your mother was in the water closet?

Aha. I crack myself up. But seriously, folks, I think I am the only person anywhere who loves a four-hour Oscar show. I love the extravagance and self-indulgence of it all. And I hate, hate, HAAAAATE Gil Cates for his hideous rudeness to the "technical" nominees. Chris Rock's joke about an Oscar drive-through next year was right-on. What, we can go to the Magic Johnson theater and talk about White Chicks, and we can have a lame tribute to Johnny Carson (who was a TV HOST and not the single greatest American actor in history cough*MarlonBrandodiedlastyeartoodouchebag*cough), but we can't let the incredibly talented and dedicated sound designers who are redefining their art almost every year walk to the fucking stage?

For shame, Gil Cates. For shame, you bastard.

One of the four-hour shows, for movie year 2001, was actually one of the better ones in recent memory (Mar, this was the one that included the Stiller/Wilson video on costume design). But I do understand finding a four-hour show tedious. I'm not categorically opposed to it, but they don't always come off as good TV. I rarely complain when they're in the usual 30-minutes-over area, though it was at least novel to see them keeping it brisk this year ( ... )

cinematography awards to whatever movie has mountains in it, etc

One of my favorite snarky remarks of all time, re people who know nothing about cinematography commenting on cinematography: They don't think Lord of the Rings is amazing cinematography. They think New Zealand is pretty.
