So BLENDER magazine did some list of the 50 or 100 worst songs ever. They do a lot of those lists, and as much as I like lists, it’s a little confusing to me, because I’ve been under the impression that the people who write for BLENDER have only ever heard about 200 or 300 songs total. Actually, I guess they’re more like McG or Stephen Sommers- ( Read more... )

pulp, they might be giants, weezer, beatles, fountains of wayne, liz phair, my years in lists, okgo, oasis

Okay, now I'm over the pressure of being FORCED to do a worst song list (I could do "songs I really hate" in a heartbeat, "worst songs ever" is harder) I can comment for real. Plus, I really liked "We Built This City" when I was younger than six, so how bad can it be!

You pretty much hit the nail on the head with "Extraordinary." I can't even picture stupid people liking that song and being like "Yeah, this is my jam."

I would add "Baily's Walk" to the list. It's only a b-side but I can't really enjoy it at all.

I meant to make a shout-out to Bailey's Walk-- to say that I LIKE it, or at least don't mind it. I tried to find a Pixies song that I really hate, but none of them I could think of really provoked my ire. Ditto for The Dismemberment Plan, Elastica, Belle and Sebastian, Rilo Kiley, and Sleater-Kinney. They all have totally boring or inessential songs, but nothing that really makes me shudder.

There are also artists who I generally like but suspect may have a really awful song somewhere in their catalogue, but I don't know enough about. Like David Bowie and Bob Dylan-- I have lots of their stuff, but nowhere near 100%; they both probably have entire terrible albums I don't know about.

Jesse, I love this list. What a fabulous idea! I sometimes try to listen to "Seductive Barry," but I just can't get through the whole thing. It's doubly bad because two good artists disgrace themselves on it -- Jarvis Cocker and Neneh Cherry. Remember "Buffalo Stance?" Now that was a good song. Good call on "Birthday." It reminds me of being at Chuck E. Cheese when I was a kid. I kinda like "Extraordinary" because it's on the Queer Eye soundtrack, but, yeah, that lyric is whack. "Shortly Before the End" ... I can't even remember that one, but "Return" is actually kinda good.

I used to kinda like "Return" and now I totally love it. I pretend that "Hello My Treacherous Friends" or "Get Over It" are my favorites on the CD, but really it might be "Return."

If someone else -- *not* one of my favorite songwriters, for exampel-- did "Extraordinary," I probably wouldn't hate it so much. But then again, if someone else did "Extraordinary," I might not know it at all, which would be even better.

No, Becky! You don’t like that song. And Jesse, you wouldn’t like it no matter who put it out (EVEN Mandy Moore). It’s not *even* empowering, it’s just bland nonsense. There are a million better Liz songs that could go on the Queer Eye soundtrack. Even from the new album (HWC? :x)

As someone who appreciates the Smashing Pumpkins in that original-fanbase-hate-inducing kinda way (aka bought their Greatest Hits CD, liked it, bought their one allegedly really good album, used, Siamese Dream, liked it, have no urge to plunge deeper into their catalogue) I think The Everlasting Gaze is the point on their best of where you start to think, "Gee, I guess it was really time for them to break up ( ... )

Have you ever heard 'Be true to your school' by the Beach Boys. All I'm saying is that the words 'rah rah rah rah sis boom bah' should never be recorded by human beings....esp brian wilson, Iäll just blame mike love as usual.
