The snow is falling January dah dah dah dah dah.

You can tell it's the dead of winter because LiveJournal activity is positively hopping.

Another possible sign of Januarytime: I am so digging Mandy Moore's cover of "Have a Little Faith in Me." I mean, I was digging it before, but I am rocking it especially out right now, let me tell you. This isn't like "I'm With You," where I kind of hate it ( Read more... )

Huh. I haven't heard Miss Moore's latest and greatest. Hell, I just got Milkshake out of my system two days ago, replaced by Britney's Toxic.

I'm not that into Milkshake but that does remind me to download "Like Wo"...

Milkshake is no good but Toxic is like heroin. One try and you're hooked.

Milkshake took me many weeks (months?) but it finally got to me.

Toxic took me all of 3 mins. 18 secs.

I am playing it as I type.

Now I must dance.

Judging by the short ass snippets on her website, I'm pretty sure there are a bunch of better covers on the album. Covering have a little faith in me is so predictable. The whole point of Coverage was her to educate herself on music made before she was born that she didn't know about. If she ever watched an episode of Dawson's Creek or Ally McBeal (or even that one episode of Alias where it turns out Francie's boyfriend wasn't cheating on her but secretly practicing to become a singer and then he sings have a little faith in me and then a few episodes later Sydney learns that he actually was cheating on Francie), she'd heard Have a Little Faith in me being covered somewhat worse than she did ( ... )

You know, Liberty *says* the point of Coverage was to educate herself about music before her time, but yo, if you're really into doing that, you can do it by buying a bunch of albums and listening to them all the way through, not putting out a covers CD. While I agree with most of what you're saying (i think minimalist booty music is only sometimes true), you don't actually address the main issue of my post, which is that like Mandy Moore's cover of have a little faith in me disporportionately.

Well, you seemed to disregard it on the basis of it not being as good as, say, her covers of Joe Jackson or XTC. My thought is:

(a.) The supposed purpose of the album, as stated by you, is basically false and, as such, I don't find "Have a Little Faith in Me" a disappointing or inappropriate choice.

(b.) As far as Mandy Moore is concerned, I wouldn't be shocked if-- and keep in mind I haven't heard the rest of the album-- her *reading* of "Have a Little Faith in Me" is default-superior to her interpretation/reading/whatever of "Senses Working Overtime." Not that I don't want to try. Everytime I download it, it's the faked-out 30-seconds-of-"Candy" decoy track!

(c.) Hey, fuck you, buddy.
