The thing that struck me about Arcade Fire and several other bands is that some artists would be favored more by album lists. Funeral is so good through and through that picking out a bunch of songs from Funeral would feel like, well, including a bunch of songs from Funeral because it's a great album, not really because it has individual tracks that jump out. Other bands that I love dearly but wouldn't necessarily win a singles game include Sleater-Kinney, the White Stripes, and even Radiohead, who managed several songs on this list, but not more than, say, the New Pornographers, who I love but who couldn't match Radiohead's decade-long output.
If you wanted to get in on the actual voting, I'll probably still be taking them all week.
Thinking about this some more, I think I also (for song lists) tend to favor songs that are the single indisputable best work over songs that are one of dozens of wonderful songs. Like the Walkmen: I have almost all of their albums and they have some good stuff, but I've never heard anything of theirs that is as completely fucking astounding as "The Rat" so I pay more attention than when Arcade Fire or the White Stripes put out ten or twelve great songs on a single record.

Between you & Bayard, I'm really enjoying this and feeling like I may actually have to try to get a list together.
