I showed restraint and only bought three albums on Tuesday. Another day, Broken Social Scene, The Go! Team, and Franz Ferdinand (unless I just burn Marisa's ( Read more... )

Did you notice that there's like, Liz backlash-backlash, but those people STILL never like her newest album? Like that Pitchfork reviewer. You have to be on crack to like the self-titled album but not like this one.

Franz Ferdinand is good! I never really got all the way through the last album, but this one has fewer bogus album tracks. At least the first half of it is really strong.

I also like Tymps, but I miss the crazy carnival noises of the Brion version. I'm trying hard to think of them as just two different songs.

In her MTV interview, Fiona says she's hoping at some point to finish the Brion songs and release them the way the two of them would have.

Wow, that would be interesting (and "carnival noises" ... that sounds good to me). She should take the best Brion takes and do a 6-or-7-song EP or something (since two of them are already on the actual album). I generally like Brion, from what I know of him, but some of the work the other guy did on this record is pretty tight.

BSS was one of the ones I wound up not getting. I think a gift certificate is coming my way, so I might get it then. The reviews have been very positive, though it sounds ... sprawling. Pitchfork called the last one a "perfect pop record," a phrase that should rarely be used to describe something with three or four extended instrumental tracks... and said this one was less "refined" (!). So I'm expecting really interesting messiness.
