I have to say, the mental anguish was worth it. Also, good for you for not giving up. When I can't make something I'm writing work, I give up. I love the surreal atmosphere that you have created with the creatures, and how, while color is mentioned, it all seems so grey. Through it all I feel some perverse undercurrents that are also pretty easy to pick up on. I have a sick fetish for men being raped. I have no idea why. So, one million points to you for the great fiction. Minus one for being an enabler for my Nathan/Charles and Assassin/Charles addiction.
I absolutely love your writing style and the sense of eerie foreboding with those bones and unidentified bodies... But what was so authentic was the fear that gripped Charles. I can see that being canon, eventually. I can't imagine the stress Charles is under, it makes perfect sense that he'd eventually start seeing and hearing things.

You weren't kidding.
Goddammit, Nathan. Your coma-kink is truly unsettling.

But damn. I must read more from you!
