In which I blather about nails again

Dec 17, 2012 14:32

I had a play with various types of mani this week, where I did a different style for each nail but with the same colours (the BN nail bloggers have a word for this, but middle age has eaten my memory for names, so). EDIT: poisontaster to the rescue, it's a skittles manicure!

Pic under the cut, if you care one whit about the state of my nail polish )

Oooooh, I LOVE those colors! And I think your cloud manicure is much better than you're giving yourself credit for.

L'Oreal polishes are great - I have more of theirs than any other range. I've acquired a load of gorgeous shimmer colours of theirs over the years, and they last forever. A decade old? consistency still fine, maybe takes a touch longer to dry. Fifteen years? ...going a bit gloopy, but still totally useable.

And you're a sweetie, but that hand was actually the better cloud mani; the left hand was really bad! But practice makes perfect, right?

Skittles. That's what it's called when every nail is different.

ALL of my first cloud manis turned out looking like steps rather than fluffy clouds. It doesn't look nearly bad as you think (protip: things never look as bad as YOU'LL think they do!) but yeah, it takes practice and just...kind of let the brush sit there for a sec and the polish form a drop around the brush before you do your downward drag. And you do rock the hell out of leopard print!

I NEED you to report back on the Glimmer By Erica polishes. I've been wanting some of her polishes SO BAD, but I haven't bought them yet. *bites lip*

I love Zoya. It's absolutely my favorite major brand. Good luck! For you and your wages! :p

Skittles! Thank you! And thanks for the cloud mani tip, I'll try that for my next attempt. (The leopard print, though... yeah, that's gonna be my signature mani. I've been plotting all the colour combinations I could do it in, just with the polishes I already have, and, um, that's a lot of leopard!)

I will absolutely report back! With photos! But bear in mind they've got to cross the Atlantic, right in the middle of the Christmas postal mayhem - so I'm not really expecting to receive them this side of mid-January. :/

They have 72 colour of Zoya, and the entire ~300-strong OPI range. Plus Orly, Nubar and Seche. I'm doomed. Also, I take back what I said to you last week about nail fiends with crazy stashes. Apparently I'm going to be one of them...

Okay, so I'm generally very iffy on animal prints AND I'm iffy at things that are too much Christmas colors (on my nails)...but I saw the CUTEST leopard print manicure the other day, red and green print on a white background. *nods* So yeah, it's amazing what combinations people come up with and how really sensational they look!

I am a patient soul. Ohm.....

OMG, yeah. I'd absolutely go crazy. *laughs* Some of the nail blogs are doing their "best polish of 2012" lists and I look at my (now massive) stash and realize, ALL my polish (except for literally ONE BOTTLE) was acquired in 2012. *facepalms* Maybe I can rationalize it by saying I was doing my part to rehabilitate our economy? LOL.

I'm very iffy about red and green together, and I don't care how Christmassy it looks; but I'm thinking I could do a very nice snow leopard with black, white, and silver shimmer for my holiday manicure... or maybe silver, iron-grey shimmer and black. Hmmm. That needs swatching.

So, go on, do tell - just how many have you bought this year? Do you even know, or are you really carefully avoiding counting them? *dies laughing* I'm a multi-crafter, so believe me, I know all about stash acquisition!! There's a reason I have to have a two-bedroom house all to myself...

Loving the thumbnail you've done, and the other colours you've ordered look so pretty!

SO BLOODY PRETTY, I CAN'T WAIT. Why have they got to travel half-way round the world, at absolutely the worst time of year for snail mail? WHY HAS NOBODY INVENTED A FUCKING TELEPORTER YET??? Life is so unfair.

Next time we're in the same room, I will do you leopard-print nails, m'kay? Apparently I have a talent for them.
