Not That I'm Obsessive-Compulsive, Or Anything

So, I bought a Kindle at last; gave in to temptation and excess Nectar points. I've had it for about 12 waking hours now, and there are 272 items on it (and there would be many more if everyone mirrored the good stuff to AO3). Mostly pornalicious fic, schmoop fic, and classic novels. All free, except I treated myself to one of obstinatrix's published works ( Read more... )

FWIW, at least on my Kindle it's much better to make things into .mobi files than pdfs, and Calibre works well for that. Actually, I've used Calibre to turn pdfs into mobi when I didn't have access to make the file directly into mobi.

...

I must have missed the part in the Kindle instructions where it told me that .mobi files were in fact Kindle files. (Or maybe Amazon didn't think I needed to know that?) I just saw where it said it could read .pdf and .txt files. *facepalm*

Stupid technology.

Thanks for your help, .mobi files are indeed much better, what with the text sizeability and all.

Heh, I think I got the info from other Kindle-using friends on LJ--I got mine just after Christmas so I haven't had it long. I have WAY WAY less files on mine because I'm lazy. LOL

I only went quite this barmy with the downloads because I have this week off work and it's freezing out, so I'm hibernating indoors with my 'puter.

I love the Collections function too, I'll have to show my Dad how to do that on his Kindle (read: do it for him) when I go over on Sunday, as I'm fairly certain he won't have figured it out for himself.

I used mobipocket creator to convert Word documents and pdf's to load on my kindle.

Yey for Kindle! I have one too, but not enough time or patience lately to read much. But when I do, I usually use Calibri to convert fic.

Might check that other programme too though, it's always good to have a couple of options.

I wouldn't bother, hun - I tried them both out last night and Calibri was by far the easiest. The other programme is pretty much incomprehensible and really counter-intuitive, and I couldn't get it to work at all.
