The first computer game I remember playing was Frogger, on a BBC Micro when I was about 4. (Although I think this version was actually called Hopper, but it was the same game. The one where you're a frog crossing the road, and then crossing a river on logs and turtles.) I liked it a lot.
I also played one at infant school not long afterwards, called Granny's Garden. I remember very little about it but feel nostalgic about it. I remember a bit, which may have been in that or another game, where you had to cut a copy of a key to get into somewhere. The original and the copy filled the screen, and you could file away big squares of the copy to make it match, and they made a fairly plausible rasping sound from the computer speaker by using very fast, very low-pitched bleeps.
The first computer game I got really obsessive over was The Secret of Monkey Island.
It's surprising how strong your emotional attachment is when you think about it, isn't it? I found a download of Colin the Cleaner online, but I don't really want to do that. Maybe I'll find a copy (and a Spectrum, because I sold mine years ago) at a car boot sale of something :)
You know, I missed out on Monkey Island. I'm not sure how I managed to, but James gets all reminiscent over it, and I don't have any attachment at all.
I used to love my old Speccy! Favourites were Spy Hunter, Hungry Horace, Jet Set Willy and Chuckie Egg. You can play loads of them as Java games here: http://www.zxspectrum.net/. I may have spent ages on that site *g*
