I thought the first couple of episodes were great in that they properly set up the Morgana subplot and clued us into how dark things are going to get in Camelot. (It's Cenred, btw).
But overall, the two episodes fell a bit flat for me, and I found them sort of...joyless, for lack of a better word. The sort of banter and camaraderie that make Merlin good (indeed, make it rise well above the place it was meant to be) was just missing
( ... )
I see what you mean about Uther's decision, hmm. That makes more sense. Though I do wish Uther wasn't so stubborn sometimes, because it would have been nice to have Gwaine (this spelling is still making me laugh, but I can't help using it now *lol*) as a new regular character. In fact, the lack of turnover of any regular principal characters after three series is quite surprising (though not a bad thing).
I really do hope Arthur and Gwen get it together soon. It's time they did, really. They've already set things up for something happening between her and Lancelot after she's married Arthur (assuming this is how it plays out in this version), so they could really get on with the Arthur/Gwen romance. It's all very sweet though, and makes me happy.
