The interest idea was the Lost Souls - I believe Keats was collecting Skips. This was sort of the copper's purgatory, undecides coppers were collected by the Devil. Gene was there to help them on. Alex and Sam both were able to visit due to the Coma I guess originally.
Yeah, it's weird how you get to purgatory (or whatever) if you're just in a coma, isn't it? Strange. Though maybe the being in a coma was what made them different to the others (e.g. remembering where/when they'd come from). Hmm.
Only just watched the finale literally five minutes ago.
Um. Yeah. Not quite sure what to think.
So is Keats the Devil? I really didn't understand who he was. It would make sense of Gene saying "Go to hell" and him saying he would and the lift down (to hell?) I like fluffyarmadillo's idea of purgatory and Gene and Keats tempting the coppers either way. But I think the imagery is getting mixed up. If Gene is being explained as a dead young copper (an explanation I don't like) then how can he also be God? It doesn't really work.
I'm rather confused. I think I preferred ignorance too. :\
The only way I think I can rationalise it is by thinking of it as all quite Faustian - so this isn't direct contact with God or the Devil but with their respective minions. I think Keats is some sort of demon, because he seemed to be reporting to some sort of boss when he called to say he was bringing Ray, Chris and Shaz in.
The only problem is Gene really. Is he some sort of angel? But a badly flawed angel who only just found out he's been helping people (presumably unwittingly before) to find peace - by being either a bad or a good role model, depending on the viewpoint of the character (e.g. compared to modern policing he's bad, but to Ray and Chris he's a hero). Um?
