Ooooh, I can rec some books! Have you read the Lymond Chronicles or the House of Niccolo by Dorothy Dunnett? They're just incredible, beautiful, brilliantly intelligent, emotional, and historic. They're set in the Renaissance. They make me cry sometimes. They're probably more angst than pathos. Angst is my thing. :D ( ... )
