WASHINGTON, Oct 26 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush signed legislation on Thursday to build 700 miles (1,126 km) of fencing along the U.S.-Mexican border, an election-year move against illegal immigration aimed at helping Republicans.

Unfortunetly, the fence may actually cause more problems than it fixes if we don't take steps to curb corruption in Border Agents. I read an article yesterday (but can't find the link now) where corruption in border agents of all types are becoming more and more likely to take bribes from Alien smugglers and drug runners. From Border patrol to Immigration to FBI agents. The article focused mostly on Texas, but mentioned all the southern states. One point made was that the harder it is to get stuff across the border, the more likely it will be that bribes will come into play. And our guys don't seem to be saying no to it.
