A quick question for y'all. Do you think Robin/Isabella could have worked without Marian's death? This isn't a question of whether Robin would have left Marian for Isabella or something--it's that the more I think about these two, the more I wonder if Robin needs that edge that he has in S3 to "get" Isabella. Or do you think it could work (as ( Read more... )

I'd like to think so yes!

Isabella was very similar to Marian (apart from the fact that she was just a teensy bit psycho) which was probably what attracted him to her in the first place.

Interesting. Because while I think Isabella & Marian have similarities (ha, I wrote a fic about it) I feel like they're fairly different people. Though I could see Robin noticing their similarities and latching onto that.

Oh yeah, they're very different, but also alike in a couple of ways.
At first Isabella is someone that's very willing to help to cause (in terms of offering information and jewellery if necessary) and that's very similar to Marian. The fact that they're both nobility is also one of those things that's very obvious. And then there's the hair and eye-colour.

Those are all things that Robin would notice and given the fact that Marian hadn't been dead all too long, he would have glossed over any faults in Isabella's personality. You know, like he had this dream image of her in his mind.

But unlike Marian, Isabella tends to do a lot of things for her own gain and while her attraction to Robin was very real, I always saw her as someone that played both sides.

I totally agree. And I think that's one of their main personality differences--that Isabella does stuff for herself, while Marian has ideals in mind. Though the Isabella of 3x06 is VERY different from the Isabella of the end of the series (where she goes from almost being ashamed of hating Guy to being consumed by it). Hmm.

Hohummm, Robin never seemed to mind flirting with the ladies even while Marian was alive (remember the fake nun?). However, I bet he would keep Isabella as a mistress and marry the virginal Marian. Because he would be certain Marian loved him. And now I'mma go and whip my Guymarianite back for considering this as an option.

I agree with that scenario and like where your mind is going...

You mean you're into whipping? Should I keep this in mind for a future time?

Robin doesn't need that edge, he's truly polyamorous, he is. ;-) Besides, their first meeting was lovely; a rescue and sweet music as soon as their eyes met. Just the thing for the hopeless romantic in me. (Doesn't hurt that JA and LP had all that chemistry that lacked between JA and LG)

Robin/JA is truly at his best with Isabella. She's a dark noblewoman - his type - she has links to his past but is still a new, exciting stranger with demons of her own. She yields to him in the beginning, but the liason is still forbidden. She seems to need him in a way Marian never did.

Yes, I'd say it would work brilliantly for Robin.

Oh, I think he'd totally go for her regardless, I'm just wondering if they'd connect better when Robin's got demons to deal with like she does. Or maybe that just makes things worse.

And YES JA & LP have way better chemistry than JA & LG
