There was absolutely nobody to identify with in this, and I can't honestly say whether I was rooting for Simon due to the character, or because he was played by Jonas. ;) The first time I watched it, I really disliked Reg just because of the way he was treating Simon. With subsequent viewings, he's the character who, I think, manages to keep his head on his shoulders better than the others (well, until it gets smashed against his equipment, anyway) (sorry; bad joke :D). He asks the questions that Mary should be asking, regardless of whether or not the others are pleased to hear it. Probably suggestion of a cavity search was carrying it a bit far... but as it turned out, he wasn't all that off-track. So

Yes. I would totally watch a film in which he went around killing people (Perhaps a bit like Hannibal Lecter, but without eating them. Or he could eat them, I suppose. But it wouldn't be necessary).

Oh, absolutely!! I'd even put up with the eating of victims, though I get the feeling he'd do it more just to see what it was like, than for any real purpose. More of a *shrug* "Meh" thing than a "I love the smell of liver and Chianti in the morning" (quote intentionally massacred).

This'll be pretty short, because I thought the acting was fabulous (which had a lot to do with how much I like the movie). We already knew Jonas is brilliant ;), but I was glad to see that the rest of the cast was, as well. There wasn't one person who made me want to facepalm and shake the casting director.

I thought that the scene that Jonas got to display his best acting in was near the end when Simon was telling them that the second experience had been real even after he had been proven to be lying about the first one. Much like season 1 episode 8 (Tattoo, what tattoo) of Robin Hood I think Jonas does his best acting when his characters are being angry or intense.

Agreed. I think the next non-RH role we'll be discussing (at some point) will be his turn in The Street-- if you haven't seen that yet, I think you'll be blown away. Despite it being a very difficult thing to watch, it's what I would always recommend first of his roles, because he was simply incredible in it. I thought he was a talented actor already, but... wow. And I wonder if part of that wasn't because the whole thing is intense, and a large percentage of it is angry.
Kinda getting ahead of the game there, away from the current discussion, but there's one Street scene in particular that always comes to my mind when someone comments on how well he nails angry scenes.
Back to your mention of 1x08, even quiet intensity is good with him. That scene where he's leaning against the tree, talking with Marian-- excellent.
