Is there a doctor in the house?

So, I got bit by a kid who has CMV today. Hard. The skin didn't break or anything and I wasn't that concerned about it earlier, but now that I'm thinking about it, CMV is definitely something I don't want to have. Plus, it is spread through saliva, so I don't want to just ignore it. Do you think I should get it checked out or am I ok?

medical advice, work schmerk

Always smart to check, since its possible to pass through saliva. Also, kick that little shit!!!

Oh, believe you me, I wanted to. My friend Scott told me the exact same thing.

Yeah, and why do kids have to be violent. I'm all sorts of battered and bruised from my students.

Since the skin didn't break, you should be fine. Unless the kid was bleeding or spitting (or wetting themselves) and you then touched your eyes or mouth or an open wound, then I doubt you will get it. Most people have been exposed to cmv by the time they are adults anyway, so just make sure that you wash your hands properly when you come in contact with the child and you should be fine. IOf you are at all concerned, definitely check with your doctor, but since there is no vaccine or cure I am not sure that they will be able to do anything. That said, 90% of cases are assymptomatic. Also the incubabtion period is 3-12 weeks and diagnosis is difficult, so your doctor may not be ablew to help much.

Sorry, this was supposed to be reassuring you, but it probably doesn't read like that. Bottom line, if there was no transfer of body fluids you should be fine. CMV dies quickly outside the body.

Hugs for the sore shin though.

I knew you would know! I just wasn't sure if it was something I should be worried about or not, and from the reading I did, it's definitely not something I want to have.

If you're worried have it checked out. But it sounds like if it didn't break the skin you should be okay.

Since it didn't break the skin, plain soap and water probably killed the germs. But it still doesn't make it less creepy. Sorry about that! This is scary, that little brat!
