The Confrontation That Wasn’t

. . . which makes a change.  I got my hair cut today and was talking about dogs and dog walking with the nice man with the scissors, who has two of his own.  The nice man with the scissors told me about a recent confrontation he’d had with his little dog and some great galumphing thug and the ticking-off he’d given the thug’s owner.  He was ( Read more... )

How lovely to be walking with hellhounds & bluebells somewhere peaceful, especially since there are Colonel Blimp clones out there. Cue Twilight zone music...

And the rhubarb is great news - can't wait for lots of rhubarb recipes :)

I planted, I think, six bluebells -- English, not Spanish -- and one of them looks to have come up.

Better HAD be English, not Spanish. I realise your climate is NOTHING like inland Maine, but I brought my inland-Maine friend some English bluebells (legally!) many years ago and it took several years for them to do anything. They may just take a while when they're taken away from home turf.

Ah, meringues and whipped cream. Yes, I'll be posting about that myself some day.

Oh, don't get me started about bad dogs and worse owners! If you've ever riden a bicycle any distance you've encountered these (bad words deleted) more than you'd like. My husband has a good number of scars and scar tissue because of (bad words deleted) awful (bad words deleted) dog owners (he blames the owners, not the dogs). He was starting to get so militant at one point that he was considering carrying a spare handlebar along to keep the dogs away from his ankles and hamstrings. That, or adopt and train up a scrappy mutt to run along with him and act as a furry, guided, defensive missile (not totally serious there, but a sheepdog would do a very good job of that). He never wanted to hurt the dogs, but unfortunately you can't smack the owners around... even though they need it most! /rant ( ... )

‡‡‡ And all three of my rhubarb crowns are alive! Wheeeeee! -They’ve led kind of a hard life, but they’re now safely planted at Third House, and growing, and next year there will be rhubarb. Rhubarb crumble! Rhubarb pie! Rhubarb sauce! Yaaaaay!

I feel this way about my peas, which are currently about five inches high and, going by last year's notes, only 3-4 weeks away from eating (at least the snow peas). But even if they weren't edible AND soil enriching, peas are just so darn enthusiastic that I can't help but love them.
