Tom's death.
When a member of the royal family dies, flags around Britain are flown at half-mast (i.e. halfway down the flagpole) as a sign of respect.
Allan has disappeared, and it doesn't take a genius to figure out why.
Will has been sitting in the midst of the wedding celebrations with a heart that feels like it's made out of lead. Now, he gets up purposefully, and tells the nearest outlaw - it happens to be John - that he has gone to find Allan.
He heads into Sherwood, and halfway to the camp he sees Allan, head in his hands, leaning against an old oak tree. Finding all words of comfort gone, Will simply stands, silent, and watches him, as slowly the older man starts to descend into sobs that Will just wants to kiss from his lips.
Behind him, a twig breaks, but before he can turn around a firm hand is on his shoulder, and Robin's voice whispers, "Give him time, Will."
Will turns to face him, frowning. "What are you talking about?"
"He will need you soon, but for now... his flag is still at half-mast."
Robin gives the younger man - his most faithful apostle - a look of comfort, and kisses him on the cheek.
"It'll be okay," Robin says, but Will touches his face, looks back at Allan, and wonders whether it will.
Comments are the shizz, yo - shameless flattery, constructive criticism, telling me never to darken your metaphorical doorway with my fic again, whatever.
