“I’ll be able to walk soon. Chop wood, hunt.”
Djaq glanced at John, but he didn’t speak again. She drew her chair closer to the fire, legs snagging at the mat. This might, if she dared hope, be the beginning of the end. Robin and the rest were gone, but their shadow lingered.
She placed a hand on John’s massive forearm. She was thinking of Sherwood, far away now and, it seemed to her, long ago. Implicit in John’s words was the suggestion, you won’t need to do it any more. Be a real woman. Was that what she wanted?
