Oooh, shiny. I went to look up Don Newton when adding tags.
Places you do not expect to find “the neutrality of this article is disputed:” A wikipedia article on a batman penciller.
Where you begin to think it may be merited: "The Newton Batman harkened back to the days of Dick Sprang; it was a majestic thing of beauty. … Under Don’s inspired pencils they breathed real breath; they became real people. This was Don’s talent; this is what set him apart from every other penciler."
Um, okay!
Although I will admit his pencils are lovely. I like the roguish eyebrow on Dick, and the way everyone's shoulders work together to focus the scene on Dick and Gordon. Nice.
I'm sensing a vague fondness for Don Newton by that Wiki contributor, somehow.
This was a really pretty era for the Bat-books. With the original post-Crisis Jason run of a few years later, most of my love for the characters comes from the (usually cracked-out, and not the good sort of cracked-out) writing, as a lot of the art is kind of slipshod. But the pre-Crisis artwork is a really nice match to the story style.

That kid was made of love and sparkles and just a little bit of scary.

:D Becoming Robin generally 'causes such effects.
The correct issue number however should probably be #368 (though issue #638 was an important Jason issue too. That's funny.)
