The film's marketing initially seemed aimed only at established fans. I'd never heard of Scott Pilgrim, and had no clue what the film was about after seeing the previews.

More recent ads have tried to play up the film's broader appeal, but only by telling me that I'll like it even if I'm not an established fan. If not for friends who are fans, I'd still have no idea what the film is about. And I still have no interest in seeing it.

He's done. I won't see another Cera movie again for a long, long while.

"The Expendables", in my opinion, was a much better movie from an entertainment experience too, but I'm the generation it was aimed at. My love life is too complicated to resolve by Mortal Combat.

I'm going to chime in against the Pilgirm-hate/indifference. I liked the movie, thought it was a fun film and would even go see it again. I regretted that I didn't have a nerdy partner to go see and enjoy it with.

Also, I think it's awesome that it's kind of a personal touchstone for you, Robin.

I was at Lee’s Palace the night it opened. (Or rather, opened as the club it still is today, carrying over the name of the Chinese diner it replaced.)
And now there's a BFB inside it! The ciiiircle of liiiiife...

Your next book project should be An Oral History of the Annex and Stuff.

Here's an interesting article about the movie vs. the comic.

Sounds like I'll like the comics massively more, my problem with the film was that it revelled in stuff that deserved a little more criticism.
