Play by blog enthusiasts, take note: Doc Cross has started a new PBB, beginning with this post. Doc namechecks Terry Gilliam but I’m getting an L. Frank Baum vibe. So far no one but me wants to go into the hills.

Speaking of play by blog, an interesting and late-breaking debate on the moral/ethical frame of Angels and Operators has broken out in Read more... )

I think James and Stephen both have that easy charm of the upper middle classes. I don't why they wouldn't like it.

For me, it's all about that Etonian accent. Whenever Hugh Laurie is on a talk show and I'm not paying attention, I think "Why is James Wallis on a talk show?"

I think that it's almost genetic in the UK that we expect someone with that accent to be in charge of things.

And there is a kind of enthusiasm, almost schoolboyish, that seems to go with it. I've not watched enough House to take Lawrie seriously in the role, but I can't really imagine him as a misanthrope.

And of course, I always expect him to start hiding from maiden aunts or popping off to the Drones.

See? You invoked his name at game, and he appeared.

Robin, I have to admit that it crosses my pain threshold to contemplate people sitting around unable to "inflict pain" on a completely fictional person considering the real pain I personally (a real human, not a fictional construction) have endured in my life as the direct result of real world actions taken by those same people.

Wow. Interesting experiment and all... but wow, I think I'm done.

Thank you for helping me realize what was bothering me about his objections to the game.

James has always reminded me of Rowan Atkinson from his Black Adder days.

See? Your comparison is way more flattering!

daver2323 always compares me to Brian Blessed from Blackadder The First.

Now who has more flattering comparisons.

James is a better looking and more diversely life-skilled Stephen Fry.

I'm not sure I'd have gone as far as Rowan Atkinson, but he's definitely not a Stephen Fry either. But then, I've only met him once and I was train-lagged. Doesn't he have brown hair? ;0)

The image in the figure is Bruce Campbell as Elvis Preseley from Bubba Ho-Tep. A rather obscure still for the NYT, don't you think?
