28 Weeks Later

I wasn’t particularly grooving on the idea of a 28 Days Later sequel without Danny Boyle at the helm, but when the local reviews came in as raves, I got on board and I’m glad I did. Movie ghosts are kind of a universal joint. They can be anxieties of sexual or social repression (The Haunting), family (or criminal) secrecy (The Uninvited, Ghost Story), personal failure (Legend of Hell House), child-rearing (Poltergeist, Sixth Sense, The Other), even financial failure (Amityville Horror, The Shining, 13 Ghosts, Session 9).

Good ghosts (Beetlejuice, Topper) are about nostalgia.

Ghosts vary from culture to culture. Chinese Ghost Story comes to mind, with its sexual or temptation theme.

Maybe ghosts also serve as reminders of some injustice or wrongdoing-usually confined to certain place as in a haunted house, temple, crossroads, or old building.

Is the ghost the last shot at retribution or redemption, perhaps it's karma's way of saying "I will not let this go until someone acknowledges this."

Then of course there's Ghost the movie. I hear a rehash is in the works, logline: it's ghost meets dirty dancing (this is completely unfounded and the result of the writer's overactive imagination; please disregard as complete and utter fiction)

That said, "Ghostrider" literally seems to be a ghostly avenger (nevermind the dreadful film adaptation)

Ghosts: Religion - especially fear of the afterlife.

Then, it would be spiritual like the Promethean Frankenstein: the fear of having no Soul or losing your identity.

Ghosts are more like general neuroses about personal identity, like the Cotard Delusion.

I don't see Zombies as a very interesting metaphor about the masses or the totalitarian Blob. Alien Impersonators, Changelings and Body-Snatchers are better metaphors of ideology and propaganda.

But I'm only afraid of Clowns.
